Summary
Hard Hat Awareness Week raises awareness of brain injury, through activities that encourage best practice in use of safety equipment.
Of all PPE products, head protection probably has one of the highest wearer compliance rates. However, there is still scope for improvement.
Knowledge of the correct equipment to use is low, and without adequate training and education, there is a risk of incorrect adjustments to the equipment.
Research highlights that head protection is at risk of being commoditised. The commonly-heard phrase “a hard hat is just a hard hat” demonstrates that companies often default to the lowest-cost solution. They fail to understand that “meeting the standard” gives only the minimum level of protection.
Chris Tidy explains the mechanics of head injuries. Learn some do’s and don’ts regarding head protection, as well as hints and tips for wearers.
