Summary
Join the Edinburgh Branch for this online event. Guest speaker, Gill Thomson, explores how to spot the signs of sepsis and what actions can be taken to prevent unnecessary loss of life.
Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to any infection and is a condition that kills around 50,000 people in the UK every year. Instead of the immune system attacking just the infection, it goes into overdrive and starts to attack the whole body. Left untreated, sepsis can result in multiple organ failures and death. Sepsis requires urgent medical attention.
Industries like construction face the potential for cuts, grazes, burns or wounds every day. There is an urgent need for people to recognise the link between injury and the dangers of an infection developing into sepsis.
This meeting will be useful to members who wish to cover the following IOSH competencies: Continuous improvement (Technical), Occupational health and wellbeing (Technical) and Employee welfare (Technical) at the Understand and Lead Level.
