How Samworth Brothers is enhancing careers

IOSH visited British food manufacturer Samworth Brothers to discuss the delivery of safety and health training that answers their business needs. Team members heard how the NCFE IOSH Level 3 Certificate in Safety and Health for Business, is enhancing employees’ career opportunities.

The Certificate provides an understanding of safety and health in a business context. The course enables learners to gain technical knowledge and skills, as well as effective techniques to apply that knowledge in the workplace.

“I’m taking the Level 3 qualification as a form of upskilling and trying to better the foundation I have as a health and safety professional. The qualification is helping me to realise my ambition by furthering my knowledge, which will allow me to utilise a practical application within the business,” said John Pardbuck, Health and Safety Co-ordinator, Melton Foods.

Alison Wright, Head of Health, Safety and Environment at Samworth Brothers, said: “Health and safety are of paramount importance to us. We invested in the Level 3 Qualification because we recognised the need within our Health and Safety Department”.

IOSH sat down with Mark Taylor, now Area Manager at Kettleby Foods, to find out how the NCFE Level 3 qualification transformed his career.

“Some years ago, a vacancy came up as a health and safety manager. I expressed an interest but at that point I was underqualified, so I requested that the company support me in gaining the relevant qualifications.

“The qualification helped me realise my ambitions by providing the foundations I can build upon, and hopefully lead on to other courses, to expand my knowledge.”
