IOSH is returning to Westminster to continue the debate on improving the experiences of gig economy workers.

After a hugely-successful discussion earlier this month, featuring four MPs and a range of stakeholders, this second gathering will feature a panel including Justin Madders MP, Minister for Employment Rights, and IOSH Chief Executive Vanessa Harwood-Whitcher.

A number of panellists who were at the first event will return to pick up on points that were made during the 90-minute meeting in the House of Commons.

IOSH hopes the latest event, being held on Monday 02 June, will help in gathering momentum towards ensuring better employment rights and working conditions for those in the gig economy.

The panel will focus on key pre-set questions before opening up to the audience to pose their own questions – and IOSH members can be there.

Ceri Finnegan, IOSH’s Senior Policy and Public Affairs Manager, said: “Our first event barely touched the surface of this important issue, so we’re looking forward to reconvening to dig a bit deeper and start to explore how we can improve the experiences of gig workers.

“We are delighted that Justin Madders, Minister for Employment Rights, will be attending our second event, demonstrating that this issue is clearly on the agenda of those in the corridors of power in Westminster.”

The full panel list at the time of publication is:

  • Justin Madders MP, Minister for Employment Rights
  • Vanessa Harwood-Whitcher, Chief Executive, IOSH
  • Chair, Shaun Lundy Vice-President, IOSH
  • Dr Aaron Cheng, Assistant Professor of Information Systems Department of Management, London School of Economics and Political Science
  • James Farrar, Founder and Director of Worker Info Exchange
  • Tim Sharp, Senior Employment Rights Officer, Trades Union Congress
  • Dr Alex J Wood, Assistant Professor in Economic Sociology, University of Cambridge
  • Dr Oğuz Alyanak Postdoctoral Researcher, Fairwork Project Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford.

Limited places are available to be part of the audience at this event. If IOSH members would like to attend, please express your interest by emailing ceri.finnegan@iosh.com.
