Starting your career in health and safety? Student membership gives you everything you need to succeed.

Join if you're studying an IOSH qualification, IOSH-accredited qualification, or working as a safety, health and environment (SHE) technician apprentice. For the duration of your studies, you'll get mentoring, career support and a network of 50,000 health and safety professionals worldwide – all for just £15.

  • You will need:

    • Level 3 qualification
    • One year of relevant experience
  • You'll need:

    • Level 6 or 7 qualification
    • Two years of relevant experience

Email us official confirmation from your course provider showing your new end date. We'll extend your Student membership at no extra cost.

    You can join if you’re currently studying for:

    • an IOSH qualification (like the IOSH Level 3 Certificate or Level 6 Diploma)
    • an IOSH-accredited qualification from a university or college, or
    • a NEBOSH qualification (such as the NEBOSH National General Certificate, International General Certificate, or Diploma).

    You’re also eligible if you're a safety, health and environment (SHE) technician apprentice. If you’re unsure whether your qualification is IOSH-accredited, check our list of accredited qualifications or contact us.

    Your membership lasts for the duration of your studies, plus three months after you complete your qualification.

    This gives you time to progress to the next membership grade. If you’re extending your course, just send us confirmation from your course provider and we'll extend your membership at no extra cost.

    Yes, if you can’t use our online form, download this Student Member application form (PDF 467KB) and send it to us. Contact us if you need support.

    Yes, if you complete your qualification early or gain relevant work experience, you can request an upgrade at any time.

    You’ll need to submit your qualification certificate, transcript and CV. We’ll assess your application and let you know which grade you're eligible for. There's no additional fee to request an upgrade.

    If you choose not to progress to Technical or Certified membership, your Student membership will end three months after your qualification finishes.

    You’ll lose access to member benefits like the Career Hub, mentoring programme and discounted events.

    However, you can rejoin IOSH at any time in the future at the appropriate membership grade.

    No, you don’t need any work experience to join as a Student Member.

    This grade is specifically designed for people who are currently studying, regardless of whether you're working in occupational safety and health yet.

    Work experience only becomes a requirement when you're ready to progress to Technical or Certified membership after completing your qualification.
