Upgrading your IOSH student membership

If you’re an existing Student Member and have completed your qualification, you’re ready to move to your next membership grade.

  • Upgrade to Technical membership

    You will need:

    • Level 3 qualification
    • One year of relevant experience

  • Upgrade to Certified membership

    You'll need:

    • Level 6 or 7 qualification
    • Two years of relevant experience

How to upgrade

  1. Complete the upgrade form

    Include your qualification certificate, unit transcript and CV showing your health and safety experience.

  2. We’ll assess your application

    We’ll match you to the appropriate grade and contact you to confirm your new grade.
     

  3. Pay your first annual fee

    We'll send you payment details once your upgrade is confirmed. The current annual subscription rates, which are valid until 31 March 2026, are:

    • Technical Member – £159.00
    • Certified Member – £177.00.

Your questions answered

    Yes, if you complete your qualification early or gain relevant work experience, you can request an upgrade at any time.

    You’ll need to submit your qualification certificate, transcript and CV. We’ll assess your application and let you know which grade you're eligible for. There's no additional fee to request an upgrade.

    Email us official confirmation from your course provider showing your new end date. We'll extend your Student membership at no extra cost.

    If you choose not to progress to Technical or Certified membership, your Student membership will end three months after your qualification finishes.

    You’ll lose access to member benefits like the Career Hub, mentoring programme and discounted events.

    However, you can rejoin IOSH at any time in the future at the appropriate membership grade.
