What is Chartered membership?
CMIOSH stands for Chartered Member of IOSH. It shows you meet professional standards in occupational safety and health that are recognised internationally.
Chartered membership is for experienced professionals with at least three years in senior roles. You’ll need to demonstrate professional competence and hold relevant qualifications.

Can I apply if I’m not currently an IOSH member?
You need to be at least an Affiliate member to apply for Chartered status. If you’re not yet a member, you can join IOSH and then apply for Chartered status once you meet the requirements.
What if I don't have a degree?
While most Chartered Members hold a degree-level qualification, we recognise that extensive professional experience can be equivalent. If you have significant senior-level experience without formal qualifications (at UK level 6 or equivalent), contact our Professional Standards team to discuss your situation.
Will I get feedback on my application?
We provide comprehensive guidance to help you prepare a strong application. If your application is unsuccessful, we provide detailed feedback and you can reapply.
Can I apply from outside the UK?
Yes. CMIOSH is an international qualification and we welcome applications from members worldwide. The requirements are the same regardless of location.
