Join our Board as a Member Trustee
Do you want to help shape the future of the occupational safety and health profession? This is your chance as we’re looking for an IOSH member to join our Board of Trustees.
We’d welcome your fresh and unique perspective. The role of trustee focuses on effective governance, strategic decision-making and holding the organisation to account. So we need someone with vision, commercial know-how and excellent communication skills.
We’d love to hear from you if you have experience and understanding in any of:
- organisational change management
- audits and risk management
- overseeing budgets and funding arrangements
- scrutiny of complex information and data
- policy development and strategic planning
- building relationships with key stakeholders
- digital strategy.
For this vacancy, we’re also particularly keen to hear from those with experience in equality, diversity and inclusion, international development, risk management and regulated environments.

Who can apply?
You must be a Corporate Member of IOSH to apply for these vacancies. Corporate Members are:
- Chartered Members (CMIOSH)
- Chartered Fellows (CFIOSH)
- Retired Members and Retired Fellows (former Chartered Members and Chartered Fellows who have retired from health and safety practice).
Time commitment
The time commitment averages at one day per month. You're expected to:
- attend four board meetings per year (generally held in February, May, August and November and mix of face-to-face and virtual meetings)
- attend two development days per year
- participate in committee meetings
- engage with IOSH when required and attend events and functions.
Appointments are for an initial three-year term. Re-appointment is possible for a second term (up to six years in total). Terms can be slightly different if there is a need to stagger for continuity.
The role is voluntary and unpaid but we reimburse reasonable expenses.
