Who can apply?

This position is open to IOSH members at all levels.

We are looking for someone with these skills and experience.

  • Experience of working in the education sector with specialist expertise and ability to scrutinise regulation and policies for this area.
  • Currently working in, or have previously worked in, vocational, further or higher education, or professional qualifications (not necessarily health and safety subject area as this could create conflicts of interest).
  • Understanding of the role of competencies in designing professional standards.
  • Experience of developing professional guidance, in relation to ethical considerations and dilemmas faced by OSH professionals.
  • Experience of developing policies and policy behaviour frameworks and of monitoring standards.
  • Understanding of UK education frameworks and membership standards and fit with other countries’ qualifications and credit frameworks.
  • Experience of assessment under Ofqual or the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) standards, or similar.
  • Understanding of the role of good practice and appropriate governance routes in relation to the maintenance and development of professional standards.

What's involved?

You'll need to commit to attend four virtual meetings per year. It may be necessary on occasion to hold additional meetings. You’ll also need to spend some time reading and reviewing papers between meetings.

Appointments are for a two or three-year term. Terms of office are staggered to ensure continuity.

These are voluntary positions. Reasonable expenses will be paid.

Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview. These are held by video conference.

The interview panel consists of the Policy and Standards Committee chair and two members of the Nominations Committee.
