IOSH is delighted to announce a new initiative that will play a major role in creating and sustaining a safety culture in Bangladeshi factories. The non-profit organisation Nirapon has agreed an extensive programme of collaboration with IOSH.

A safer industry
The aim of the capacity-building collaboration between IOSH and Nirapon is to develop a highly competent cohort of health and safety professionals. They will be equipped to lead improvements in worker safety and health in factories across Bangladesh.
Nirapon, which works with global brands, retailers, manufacturers and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), will enrol its team on the IOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Leadership and Management. The qualification will strengthen Nirapon’s expertise, enabling its staff to provide better support to factories in implementing safety management systems. It will also contribute to Nirapon’s effectiveness in promoting a safety culture across Bangladesh.
Enrolment of Nirapon staff onto the qualification represents one important aspect of the association with IOSH. Other key highlights of the collaboration include:
- providing advanced OSH leadership training, for teams from both Nirapon and BRAC (a leading international development NGO) to lead safety initiatives, influence and support a safety culture in participating factories.
- enhancing the Nirapon team’s understanding of international OSH standards, to support the implementation, monitoring and improvement of safety management systems in garments factories.
- enhancing the team’s analytical capabilities so that it can gain more in-depth understanding of safety performance, analyse data and assess risks. This will strengthen key Nirapon frameworks such as its 90-Day management guidance and Safety Support Visits.
- equipping Nirapon’s team to provide more strategic guidance to factories, enabling them to help factories reduce workplace incidents and maintain safety practices independently. Participants will gain advanced skills to implement, monitor and enhance safety management systems in Bangladeshi factories and guide them to sustain ongoing improvements.

Increased professional credibility for the Nirapon team
IOSH is looking forward to working with the Nirapon team. There is confidence and expectations from both sides that the extensive programme will help to deepen and expand Nirapon’s areas of health and safety expertise.
IOSH’s globally recognised qualification will bring Nirapon professional recognition for its team and the work that it carries out. It will underscore the team’s credibility and commitment to professional growth, reinforcing trust among stakeholders and aligning Nirapon with global best practice.
This capacity-building programme was put together as part of an IOSH for Business package, specifically catering to Nirapon’s needs. It represents a significant investment by Nirapon, BRAC and the individuals involved. It reflects their shared dedication to advancing workplace safety through continuous learning and innovation. Nirapon is keen to ensure that its operations align with global safety standards while delivering lasting benefits to its members, factories and the industry more broadly.
Iain McIntosh, Senior Business Development Manager at IOSH, said: “IOSH is delighted that through this initiative, it will have a central role in helping participants to gain practical skills that they need to guide factories in adopting and sustaining robust safety management practices. We are glad to support Nirapon’s mission to embed workplace safety as a core value across the sector.”
Nirapon staff will also have the option to take IOSH’s three-day self-directed e-learning course Managing Safely.
