How Blueprint works
Blueprint helps members build and demonstrate their competence as occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals. It has four elements.
☑ Self-assessment tool
Use our self-assessment tool to benchmark yourself against IOSH’s competency framework in three areas – technical, core and behavioural. It’s easy to do – just follow the instructions on screen. While the process can take up to two hours, remember it’s an investment in yourself.
Now you’ve identified your strengths along with areas for improvement, it’s time to build your personal development plan (PDP).
☑ CPD resources
Next, simply click on the different development areas in your PDP to discover the 950-plus IOSH CPD resources that can support your learning.
We also offer technical resources, written by IOSH’s safety and health experts, and core and behavioural resources provided by our specialist partners.
☑ CPD record
Use the CPD record to reflect on what you have learnt and achieved. Remaining CPD compliant ensures you keep pace with the evolving demands of the OSH profession and is mandatory for Technical, Graduate and Chartered Members and Chartered Fellows. But we recommend it as good practice for all members.
You can easily switch between the resources, your CPD record and PDP, so you can record your learning and track your progress as you go along.
☑ IOSH Ethical Practice in OSH e-learning and assessment
Ethics training is the fourth element of Blueprint and here’s why. Ethical practice is extremely important in ensuring public trust and upholding the reputation of our profession. The e-learning provides you with up-to-date content on ethical considerations that affect organisations and the OSH profession in the widest sense.
The assessment is mandatory for Chartered Members and Chartered Fellows, as we expect them to lead the profession. But we encourage all members to do this and keep their knowledge current – and it can count towards your CPD.

What’s coming next for your professional journey?
We’re pleased to say that in 2023 we’ll be implementing IOSH’s new membership grades. We want to fully support members on their professional journey to ensure their membership grade reflects their level of professional competence.
Members can use Blueprint to complete their self-assessment, create their bespoke personal development plan, and access a wealth of CPD resources to assist them in maintaining and developing their knowledge, so they are fully prepared.
