Royal Mail – delivering a new sun safety strategy
Background facts
- Royal Mail is the biggest postal operator and sole provider of a universal postal service in the UK
- It delivers mail to almost every residential and business address in the UK – 29 million addresses
- Around 143,000 employees
- Outdoor work in all conditions is a fundamental part of much of the workforce's everyday life
The challenge
With a predominantly outdoor workforce, it's no surprise that Royal Mail has made sun safety a key part of its overall wellbeing and sustainability strategy.
Shaun Davis, Group Director of Safety, Health, Wellbeing and Sustainability, recently carried out detailed research into sun safety, including how workforce attitudes to solar radiation actually correspond to everyday behaviours. His team then identified the challenges and opportunities for making improvements in sun safety across the organisation.
