Office of Rail and Road
The principal function of the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) is to regulate Network Rail's stewardship of the national network. ORR also licenses operators of railway assets, approves agreements for access by operators to track, stations, and light maintenance depots, and enforces domestic competition law.
Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS)
The Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) is a registered charity and an associate Parliamentary Group. Its charitable objective is "To promote transport safety legislation to protect human life". Its aim is to advise and inform members of the House of Commons and of the House of Lords on air, rail and road safety issues.
Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB)
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) is the independent railway accident investigation organisation for the UK. It investigates railway accidents and incidents on the UK's railways to improve safety, not to establish blame.
Confidential reporting system CIRAS
CIRAS is the industry's only independent confidential reporting system. It takes staffs health and safety concerns and aims to facilitate a resolution with the company involved. It is a non-profit organisation, ensuring confidentiality is always maintained.
Rail Safety and Standards Board
The Rail Safety and Standards Board is a non-profit making organisation responsible for developing the long-term safety strategy and policy for the UK rail industry.
