What is Council’s role?
The role of IOSH Council is to:
- represent our members by providing input and feedback to the Board of Trustees
- offer strategic advice on IOSH policy and the broader occupational safety and health profession
- support good governance by approving regulations and ensuring the Board acts in the best interests of IOSH and its members.
Through its Nominations Committee, Council is also responsible for:
- appointing our Chair and Trustees
- nominating the President-Elect and Vice-Presidents for approval at our AGM.

What’s involved?
When you join IOSH Council, you’ll have clear and manageable commitments. You can expect your responsibilities to include:
- three meetings each year (two virtual and one face-to-face)
- several informal meetings, such as working groups and council engagement sessions with members.
You’ll need to spend some time preparing for meetings by reading and reviewing papers.
Appointments are made for terms of up to three years (the specific duration is agreed by the Nominations Committee at the time of appointment). The role is voluntary and unpaid but we reimburse reasonable expenses.

This opportunity is open to all IOSH members.
