Summary
Jason Anker takes us on a different journey to the usual fall-and-injuries presentation. He focuses on emotional wellbeing and the effect his accident had, and still has, on his family.
What happens when a tradesman falls from a height and a few hours later is told that they will never walk again? How does that person begin to comprehend that shocking prognosis? How do they cope when they lose almost everything?
Jason talks about how his life drastically changed in a moment. As a young family man, it hit his family hard as every day became a struggle. Unable to cope with his emotional and psychological pain, Jason turned to alcohol and drugs. After a lengthy compensation battle, he struggled to find his life purpose. Two years later he found his purpose through sharing his experience with others.
In 2015, Jason was awarded an MBE for his extensive contribution to health and safety. He has continued to inspire people all across the UK and overseas with his story of grit, determination and resilience.
This is a unique opportunity to reflect on the human side of workplace incidents, mental health and resilience.
