Make a difference to the wellbeing of your team
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) – “Work is good for our mental health but a negative working environment can lead to physical and mental health problems”.1
As a manager, being aware of your team’s mental health and wellbeing is vital. And once you’re able to identify areas of concern you can offer the most suitable form of support.
Knowing how to do this isn’t something that comes naturally. It is a skill and there are training programmes that can support you to gain the knowledge you need. But how effective is the training that’s available and will it make a difference?
Here are few ways you can access effective training and learn more about the benefits it can bring:
- IOSH’s Managing Occupational Health and Wellbeing course recommends that one way of improving mental ill-health within the workplace can come from managers having a one-to-one conversation with a team member.
- In the IOSH report ‘Workplace Wellbeing’, research shows that increased support for line managers is a necessity. With the correct training, managers will be empowered to offer a safe and open platform where those with poor mental health can seek the guidance they need.
- Dr Jo Yarker from Affinity Health at Work – an organisation IOSH collaborates with – delivers an insightful webinar in which she explains the benefits of line manager training, and its efficacy.
Watch Dr Yarker’s webinar in which she discusses types of line manager intervention including knowledge based, behaviour change, skills specific training and more.
