IOSH Academy – Level 3 Certificate course details

There are four units of study, each mapped to the IOSH competency framework.

1. Fundamentals of OSH principles and management systems.
2. Principles and application of OSH risk management.
3. Principles and application of OSH incident management.
4. Improving OSH performance and culture.

You study using our online learning management systems. Your e-learning progress is monitored through small tasks and knowledge checks. You’ll also attend a live workshop with course colleagues and a tutor where you can learn, discuss and debate topics.

There's an official assessment at the end. You complete two exams. There is a multiple choice exam and a scenario-based exam. Both are two hours long. These are done online and are remotely invigilated. This means you can take the exams in a suitable location of your choice.

How long does the course take?

We recognise that our learners must balance various commitments with their study. The Certificate usually takes between one and seven months to complete. It depends on the amount of time you dedicate to it each week.

For example, you can complete the Certificate in five weeks if you commit to five hours per day, five days per week for five weeks.

A part-time or weekend-focused study schedule would take around 12-15 weeks. This could involve two hours per day, five days per week (12 weeks) or four hours per day, two days per week (15 weeks).

And a slower, flexible approach of 1.5 hours per day, three days per week could see you complete the Certificate in six months. So, there's a study route suitable for all different types of routines.
