HSE Asbestos Network – Duty to Manage sub-group

We are looking for an experienced external representative to join the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Asbestos Network, Duty to Manage sub-group

This is your chance to influence national discussions on asbestos management, support IOSH’s policy work and help improve health and safety in UK workplaces.

Who can apply?

IOSH members, ideally with CMIOSH or above, with the relevant skills and experience. We welcome applications from members working in all sectors.

If you don’t have Chartered status, we’ll consider your application if you have extensive knowledge and experience in your field. Affiliate and Student Members are not eligible to apply.

  • You’ll need:

    • Practical experience of working with asbestos (management, assessment, investigation or operational activities).
    • Knowledge of Duty to Manage responsibilities, including how asbestos should be identified, controlled and monitored.
    • A genuine interest in asbestos risk management and commitment to improving practice and guidance across the sector.
    • Experience from any related role or industry, including asbestos surveying, analytical testing, hygiene, removal, disposal, facilities management or consultancy.
  • As our representative, you will:

    • Attend sub-group meetings on behalf of IOSH.
    • Provide relevant technical insight on asbestos management and Duty to Manage responsibilities.
    • Contribute constructively to discussions, guidance development and industry initiatives.
    • Review meeting papers and prepare comments or input where needed.
    • Represent IOSH professionally and uphold its values in all sub-group activity.

As with all IOSH external representatives, you’ll be expected to promote our policy positions and feed back on discussions and opportunities.

Selection process

We invite shortlisted applicants for a video conference interview. The interview panel consists of two members of the Policy and Public Affairs team.
