IOSH Benevolent Fund Trustees
Applications open for both members and independent candidates
Do you want to make a difference for your fellow professionals? Then perhaps you should consider becoming a Trustee of the IOSH Benevolent Fund.
It’s an opportunity to help people when they most need it. The fund is a small charity supporting existing and former IOSH members in times of hardship. The trustees have collective responsibility for governance of the fund. They ensure it meets its obligations as a charity and award grants.
We’d welcome your fresh and unique perspectives, as well as your skills and knowledge to influence and shape this important work. It’s your chance to:
- help set the fund’s vision and direction
- ensure accountability through high standards of governance
- promote innovation and a fresh outlook to grant making and fundraising.
Come and join us in making a lasting impact for the occupational safety and health profession.
Who can apply
We have three trustee vacancies for an immediate start:
- one IOSH member trustee (open to IOSH members at all grades)
- two independent (non-IOSH member) trustees.
Skills and experience
Your input could really help us to maximise the fund’s impact. We’d love to hear from you if you have experience in any of:
- charity fundraising
- financial management and investment
- advisory services to people in hardship
- charity trusteeship (knowledge or experience)
- innovative approaches to grant-making and fundraising.
What will your involvement be?
When you become an IOSH Benevolent Fund Trustee, you’ll have clear and manageable commitments. You can expect your responsibilities to include:
- two half-day meetings each year to review the fund’s performance and strategy
- a monthly one-hour, informal meeting to talk about grant applications and other fund-related matters
- regular reading and review of documents between meetings to stay updated on the fund’s activities
- timely review and comment on grant applications as they are received.
Appointments are for an initial three-year term. Re-appointment is possible for up to three terms (nine years). The role is voluntary and unpaid but we reimburse reasonable expenses.
