Use your expertise to drive best practice in local exhaust ventilation (LEV) design, use and maintenance, protecting workers from airborne contaminants.
We are seeking an experienced external representative to join the Health and Safety Executive’s Industry and Regulatory Forum on local exhaust ventilation.
This forum brings together experts to address the design, legal requirements and best practices for controlling airborne contaminants. It supports compliance, proper maintenance and thorough examination of systems to protect worker health from hazardous dust, mist and fumes.
Who can apply?
IOSH members, ideally with CMIOSH or above, with the relevant skills and experience.
If you don’t have Chartered status, we’ll consider your application if you have extensive knowledge and experience in your field. Affiliate and Student Members are not eligible to apply.

Skills and experience
You’ll need:
- Strong technical knowledge of LEV systems and airborne contaminant control.
- Experience in occupational hygiene, engineering, consultancy, manufacturing, or similar.
- Sound understanding of relevant regulations and implementation challenges.
- Ability to provide professional, evidence-based input on behalf of IOSH.

Key responsibilities
As our representative on this forum, you will:
- Provide expert insight into LEV design, performance and practical application.
- Contribute to discussions on maintenance, testing and examination.
- Share experience to shape guidance and promote best practice.
- Work with members to support improvements in exposure control and worker health.
As with all IOSH external representatives, you’ll be expected to promote our policy positions and feed back on discussions and opportunities.

Selection process
We invite shortlisted applicants for a video conference interview. The interview panel consists of two members of our Policy and Public Affairs team.
