What we do

Being an awarding organisation is part of our vision for a safer and healthier world of work. The main aim is to develop and recognise the excellence and expertise of OSH professionals to improve global standards in the OSH profession, making sure it is fit for the future.

We’re committed to widening the market for OSH learning, reaching a diverse and global group of learners and providing the right choices for everyone. As part of this, we’ve signed the Federation of Awarding Bodies’ equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) pledge. We are members of the Federation of Awarding Bodies and a partner organisation in the UK Skills Partnership.

  • It is principally responsible for:

    • Designing, developing and awarding qualifications and assessments
    • Approving study centres to deliver its qualifications
    • The AOC reports directly to the IOSH Board of Trustees
    • The AOC is international

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with these skills and experience:

  • current or previous educational management experience
  • specialist / regulation expertise
  • understanding of UK and/or international education framework(s)
  • experience of assessment under Ofqual standards (or similar)
  • understanding of the role of competencies in designing professional standards
  • experience in monitoring performance
  • marketing education and assessment services, UK and/or overseas
  • qualification and assessment design, development and delivery
  • experience of working in an awarding organisation or professional body environment
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a strong team player.

What’s involved?

You’ll need to commit to attend four virtual meetings per year lasting 2-3 hours. It may be necessary on occasion to hold additional meetings. You’ll also need to spend some time reading and reviewing papers between meetings. Meetings are usually held virtually.

Appointments are for a three-year term.

The role is unpaid, however reasonable expenses will be paid.

How to apply

We need two completed forms – an application form and a supporting statement.

Your supporting statement should come from either your direct line manager (if in employment) or a senior industry peer (if self-employed).

IOSH members cannot provide supporting statements. It must come from a non-member.

Before you apply, please look at IOSH’s conflicts of interest policy. At the shortlisting stage, we’ll ask you to declare any conflicts specific to the role.
