Join the IOSH Nominations Committee

We’re looking for motivated individuals who want to play an active part in shaping IOSH’s future.

About the Nominations Committee

The Nominations Committee (NC) plays a pivotal role in ensuring IOSH is led by skilled, diverse, and effective senior volunteers. They ensure that appointments across the organisation’s governance structure are made through open, fair, and professional processes. By operating independently and with integrity, the NC supports IOSH’s long-term credibility and helps maintain the high standards expected of its leadership.

The NC formally reports to Council, operating under delegated authority as defined in IOSH’s Standing Orders and Rules.

The NC is responsible for:

  • identifying, assessing, and recommending candidates to Council for Trustee roles (both Member and Independent), the Chair of the Board of Trustees, and co‑opted members of Council
  • identifying, assessing, and recommending candidates to the Board of Trustees for membership of Board Committees
  • overseeing and managing the recruitment processes for Council members, the Vice President, and the President Elect.

This work ensures IOSH maintains strong, effective governance and continues to deliver its vision and mission with integrity, consistency, and a clear focus on the needs of its members and the wider profession.

Why join this committee?

Joining the Nominations Committee offers the chance to:

  • make a meaningful strategic contribution to IOSH’s future
  • influence key areas such as governance, organisational culture, and long‑term direction
  • gain valuable experience in recruitment, assessment, and oversight processes
  • develop stronger leadership and governance capabilities
  • gain unique insight into how a major professional body operates at board and committee level
  • collaborate with experienced professionals and expand your professional network
  • support IOSH’s mission and uphold high standards of integrity and competence
  • build skills that are transferable across wider leadership and governance roles.

What’s involved?

All committee members (including vice-chair) are appointed for an initial term of two or three years, with the possibility of re‑appointment up to a maximum total service of six years.

This is an unremunerated voluntary role. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the organisation’s Volunteer Travel and Subsistence Policy.

The role will require a commitment of:

  • attendance at four official NC meetings per year, delivered through a mix of virtual and in‑person sessions. Meeting dates are agreed annually in line with the workplan
  • active participation in virtual candidate assessment meetings and formal interviews (interview responsibilities are shared across the committee)
  • preparation for meetings, including reviewing documentation and applications.
