Summary
Work-related trauma and its impact on mental health is an increasingly important issue for today’s workforce. Yet it is often misunderstood, under-recognised, or inconsistently supported across different sectors.
In this first part of our new three-part series led by IOSH President Richard Bate, this webinar welcomes:
- Dr Laura Dean, President-Elect of the British Psychological Society, and
- Samantha Downie, Managing Director of Mates in Mind.
Together, they explore how trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can present in workplace settings and what this means for employers, practitioners and professionals.
The session will explain what PTSD is, how it can show up in individuals and teams and how experiences differ across workplaces. It will also clarify the difference between clinically diagnosable conditions and common stress responses. Our panel will consider how these experiences may overlap, but also where important differences lie.
The discussion will highlight how employers can recognise signs of trauma and support psychological wellbeing, while being clear about the boundaries between workplace support and clinical diagnosis. You will gain a clearer understanding of trauma-informed approaches, alongside practical insight into what is appropriate and effective within an organisational context.
Join us to raise awareness, deepen understanding of trauma’s impact and help build more informed and compassionate workplace cultures.
