Briggs Equipment UK

Managing Safely case study

Briggs Equipment UK is part of Briggs International, the world’s largest global distributor of Hyster and Yale materials handling equipment. Its parent company, Sammons Enterprises Inc, is one of the worlds largest privately owned companies. With 1,200 employees, Briggs has operations throughout the UK.

As a key distributor of forklift trucks and other materials handling equipment, Briggs has been striving to improve the safety and health culture of its working environment, as well as that of the sector as a whole.

Having set up its ‘BE Safe’ campaign, the company was quick to recognise that equipping the management team with the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding would be a key step to achieving and maintaining this goal effectively.

Because the management team consisted of individuals with a wide range of safety and health knowledge and experience, the company decided to train everyone to a recognised standard - they chose Managing Safely.

The course was delivered in-house by Safety Training Scotland, with sessions held two days a week over two weeks.

Delegates reported that the Managing Safely content was interactive and engaging. The trainer’s fun yet focused delivery style helped to create an effective learning experience. All delegates passed with excellent marks.

"Having participated in several safety and health courses and seminars over my 35 years in the industry, this was the most precise, engaging and informative training course I’ve ever attended."

Following the Managing Safely training, the company has received positive customer feedback about the support and competence the management team has shown when dealing with such enquiries. This is a clear sign that Briggs safety and health culture is improving.
