Empowering women in rural Africa

Tackling occupational safety and health risks for social justice

Date
19 February 2025
Type
Webinar

In November 2007, the United Nations proclaimed 20 February as World Day of Social Justice – a day to remind us of the need to build fairer, more equitable societies. In 2023 the ILO decided to launch the Global CoGlobal Coalition for Social Justicealition for Social Justice as a vehicle for collective action.

IOSH was delighted to be among the first organisations in 2024 to accept the ILO’s invitation to join the Coalition.

IOSH’s webinar will mark World Day of Social Justice. It will demonstrate how occupational safety and health interventions with relevant stakeholders can lead to the economic and social empowerment of vulnerable communities working in the informal economy.

The webinar reports on the positive outcomes of a project to support hard-to-reach communities of women in Ghana and Kenya. The project emphasises the societal value of good occupational safety and health and aims to inspire similar collaborations and provide an example of simple yet effective ways to improve lives and advance social justice.
