Broadcasting and Telecommunications
About us
The IOSH Broadcasting and Telecommunications Group provides a forum for health, safety and environment professionals working in the telecommunications sector. This includes broadcast content production, transmission and provision of services to end users where through the IOSH profession we share views, ask questions and seek guidance to achieve a safe and healthier world of work.
With over 1,700 members we bring members together to network and exchange information related to our sector and help IOSH meet its strategic objectives to enhance, collaborate and influence the safety profession.
The committee meets periodically and acts as a focal point for members and is a link between IOSH and our sector. Your input is really important to the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Group, and we're very grateful for your help. We are always keen to hear from members wishing to raise specific topics or suggest ideas for events.

Strategy work and achievements so far
We aim to contribute to the knowledge and expertise of health, safety and environment professionals within the Broadcasting and Telecommunications sector. This includes two main areas:
- Technical infrastructure for broadcasting production and content creation
- Distribution of content to end users. Includes fixed line, fibre, satellite and wireless communication to end users such as TV, radio, mobile phones, connected smart devices and equipment.
Please also read our WORK 2022 strategy.
The group aims to provide IOSH members with technical information, knowledge, competence (CPD) and networking events specific to this industry sector.
Once per year the Group assesses the most relevant risks/issues to the sector to focus on support to IOSH members following the member survey.
Our current top risk issues include: asbestos exposure (installation of communications), street works activities such as laying communications, electrical works (installation or decommissioning communications), mental health, and electromagnetic field risk to people.
Our aim each year is to select a focus area and provide information via our microsite, emails, webinars or networking events with objectives including:
- organising networking events per year
- contributing to the annual IOSH Conference
- developing our communications with IOSH
- collaborating with IOSH Branches
- publishing news for our members on key issues affecting the Broadcasting and Telecommunications industries.
