Confronting modern slavery in today’s economy

Modern slavery isn’t a distant issue; it’s embedded in today’s economy, often hidden across supply chains and workplaces. This IOSH white paper shows why exploitation should be treated as an occupational safety and health issue, and what organisations must do differently to prevent harm. 

Evidence of the challenge

Over 50 million people globally are affected by modern slavery. In the UK, referrals have exceeded 23,000 – and continue to rise. Yet our research suggests many organisations still lack the systems to identify or prevent risk.

We surveyed 1,000 business leaders. The findings expose significant gaps:
