Jamie Bartlam has made history by becoming the UK’s first graduate of a ground-breaking qualification designed to shape the future of workplace safety.

Jamie received his certificate at Business Safety Systems, the Stafford-based training provider where he completed the IOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Leadership and Management. His achievement marks a significant milestone not only in his personal career but also in the evolution of health and safety education across the UK.

“The qualification is work-based so I’ve been able to examine how I’m providing health and safety advice and expertise to ensure it’s as good as it can be,” said Jamie, who is a Director at SchoolPro Safety, a Cheltenham-based business which provides safety solutions in the education sector. “The course has been really beneficial. Having the qualification means that when I go into a school, they know they are getting a certain quality of support.”

The IOSH Level 6 Diploma was developed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the world’s largest chartered body for health and safety professionals. It reflects IOSH’s commitment to nurturing future leaders in occupational safety and health, equipping them with the strategic, technical, and leadership skills needed to meet the demands of modern workplaces.

Jamie’s success was supported by Business Safety Systems, which is celebrating its 30th year and has become one of the first UK providers to offer the new diploma. The company has long been recognised for its innovative approach to health and safety education, combining academic rigour with practical, real-world experience.

“We’re proud to be at the forefront of health and safety education in the UK,” said Kate Sault, Senior Health and Safety Consultant and Trainer at Business Safety Systems.

“Jamie’s success is a testament to the quality of our training and the dedication of our learners. This qualification represents a new era in health and safety leadership, and we’re honoured to be part of that journey.”

Jamie’s journey into health and safety began with a passion for protecting people and creating safer environments. The Level 6 Diploma has given him the tools to take that passion further – as he seeks to enhance the offer of his business in the education sector.

Mike Smith, Head of Awarding Organisation at IOSH, said: “We’re delighted to see Jamie become the first UK graduate for our Level 6 Diploma. We hope he will be the first of many to benefit from this qualification as we seek to develop future occupational safety and health professionals, supported by our excellent study centres.”
