Today, IOSH joins millions across the globe in marking Commonwealth Day, an annual moment to celebrate the diversity, shared values and collective potential of the 56 Commonwealth nations.
This year’s theme – Unlocking opportunities together for a prosperous Commonwealth – closely mirrors IOSH’s mission and strategy. It reflects the work we do every day across regions, sectors and communities to ensure that progress and prosperity are built on the strongest possible foundation: safe, healthy and sustainable work.
Putting people first
At IOSH, we believe that people‑first prosperity begins with prevention. When workers are protected, supported and equipped for the future, organisations and economies thrive. Through our global programmes, partnerships and guidance, we help:
- build capability by strengthening skills and professional development
- support strong institutions that uphold safety, health and good governance
- prepare for the future of work by championing the competencies needed for digitalisation, innovation and green transitions.
These efforts align directly with the Commonwealth’s call for inclusive growth, resilience and opportunity, ensuring that no worker or community is left behind.
Looking ahead to CHOGM 2026
As Commonwealth countries prepare for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026 in Antigua and Barbuda – with its focus on accelerating partnerships and investment – IOSH is proud to stand alongside governments, employers, safety and health professionals, and civil society to advance this agenda.
Our commitment is clear: a prosperous Commonwealth is one where everyone can thrive at work – safely, fairly and productively.
Through our collaborations at national and international levels, we help unlock opportunity by improving workplace standards, strengthening regulatory systems and supporting long‑term, sustainable development.
Marking the day in London
To celebrate Commonwealth Day, IOSH Strategic Engagement Manager Marcel Le Roux will attend a service of celebration at Westminster Abbey in London followed by a special reception hosted by The King and Queen.
The events bring together Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers and strategic partners, highlighting shared priorities for cooperation and development.
Driving opportunity through safer work
As we commemorate Commonwealth Day, IOSH reaffirms its dedication to supporting a safer, healthier and more equitable world of work for all. Because when we protect workers, we unlock potential – and together, we build a Commonwealth where prosperity is shared, sustainable and truly people‑centred.
