President’s Distinguished Service Awards

Jimmy Quinn, a recent President of IOSH, receives an award for giving time, effort and commitment to volunteering roles both inside and outside of IOSH. He is passionate about people and service. After serving in the Army for 24 years, he followed the frequently taken career path to safety and health. Inevitably this led to IOSH. As President, he showcased the skills and experience that armed forces veterans could bring to the occupational safety and health profession.

Steve Pulling, David Heath and Tyrone Partridge have collectively given over 100 years of service to IOSH. Each has made significant contributions which have had an impact on many colleagues, in and beyond the Thames Valley community. They have helped younger members to navigate their professional development, through mentoring and training. They are inspiring advocates for health and safety, promoting best practice and continuous improvement.

President’s Commendation Awards

Sarah Lilienthal has been volunteering on IOSH peer review interviews for 10 years, assessing members’ suitability for Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow status. Sarah has supported 244 panels, resulting in the appointment of 207 new Chartered Members. Since 2020, she has also been a member of 65 Fellowship interview panels, resulting in 39 new Chartered Fellows. Sarah also mentors and guides members with additional learning needs. She is an excellent role model for the next generation of health and safety professionals.

Steve Pickston draws from his wealth of knowledge, gained from over 25 years’ experience, when speaking at events, conferences and events. A member of the IOSH Fire Risk Management community, he invites his audiences to think about the impact of their work on everyday life. With his encouragement, they reflect on how and where they can make a difference. Steve’s commitment to his work is clearly evident.

Tim Harnett supports the South West community in his capacity as secretary. He is proactive in finding new ways to improve processes and systems to make the committee more effective. As a mentor, Tim is committed to supporting others. He says, “coaching is one of my focus areas this year and it’s very much about engaging and helping people to use their own knowledge and experience to develop. They have the skills. Often, it’s just not knowing how to use them and that’s where sometimes people need a little guidance and support.”

All IOSH members can apply for volunteer roles. You can support our work and promote our vision of a safer and healthier world of work. Volunteer work also counts towards your continuing professional development.
