This research, conducted by Cardiff University, set out to discover the extent of mental health risks on vessels, what the causes are and what can be done to improve mental wellbeing among seafarers.
The research explored the perceptions of key industry stakeholders by reviewing the policies and practices normally implemented by ship operators and what factors seafarers identify as supporting or undermining mental health and wellbeing in this sector. This led to recommendations for how employers can take steps to address the psychological disorders among seafarers.
