Building a safer rural future

Improving rural safety requires more than individual action. It depends on strong leadership, meaningful collaboration and a shared commitment to the wellbeing of the people and communities who live and work across the rural sector.

The second session of our three-part series on rural safety, hosted by IOSH President Richard Bate, builds on the themes from the opening session.

We’ll consider how collaboration, leadership and shared learning can help drive lasting improvements in occupational safety and health across rural communities.

Bringing together voices from across the rural sector, the session will explore how:

• leaders can influence positive change
• collaboration can help address common challenges
• sharing knowledge and good practice can strengthen safety across different rural workplaces and communities.

The discussion will consider the importance of supporting the wellbeing of people working in rural environments. It will also cover the role of education and engagement in creating a stronger safety culture and encouraging the next generation to understand and prioritise occupational safety and health.

Looking beyond the immediate challenges facing rural safety, we’ll consider what a longer-term vision could look like. This includes how leadership, collaboration, education and the sharing of successful approaches can help create meaningful and sustainable change.
