“The importance of Chartered status for health and safety professionals plays a part in our progression planning for junior safety team members; by having a Chartered professional nurturing up and coming talent, this helps us develop effective development plans with the ultimate goal of them becoming Chartered as their careers mature within our business.”

Stronger recognition of Chartered professionals
IOSH has joined more than 40 leading organisations in urging the UK Government to place greater value on Chartered status across key sectors.
An open letter to the UK Government outlines how professional bodies raise standards, support ethical practice and build trust in essential services, and highlights IOSH’s role within this collective effort.
“Being a Chartered member, and now a Chartered Fellow, has enabled me to demonstrate that I am competent, I am good at what I do, and I adhere to a level of respect, integrity, competence and service that has been proven and tested by IOSH.”

How Chartered status strengthens trust and professional confidence
“For me, Chartered status is not about letters after my name. It is about trust.”
Dr David Arku explains how Chartered status strengthens his judgement, confidence and ability to make fair, informed decisions in public‑service regulation.
He shows how Chartered professionalism supports better practice, clearer accountability and stronger outcomes for organisations and the people they serve.
“My journey to Chartered started in 2005, and the absolute drive for it pulled me along until I achieved it in 2015. It was ten years of hard work, but I always felt each milestone was just as important to me.In my sector, housing and construction, my development was always supported by management, and once attained I was filled with pride and esteem. Chartership to me really was the pinnacle, and a such a positive marker of my IOSH journey.”
