Presidential team

Ambassadors of the Institution and influencers in the OSH profession

The Presidential team consists of the President, the President Elect, the Immediate Past President and five Vice-Presidents (the Officers of the Institution).

The team works closely with the Institution in an ambassadorial capacity, supporting the delivery of key strategic messages to the membership and globally to the wider occupational health and safety profession.

The President Elect and new Vice-Presidents are nominated by Council and approved by the membership at its Annual General Meeting. This is also when the President and Immediate Past President are confirmed.

Biographies

Lawrence Webb, President

Lawrence is a Chartered Fellow with over 30 years experience in safety, health and environment (SHE) management and interactive training.

He has worked across a wide range of industries, specialising in construction. His day job is Group SHE Strategy Director at Costain.

Stuart Hughes, President Elect

Stuart is a Chartered Member with 18 years' experience working in occupational safety and health (OSH).

He is driven by a belief that a safe and healthy work environment is a fundamental principle and right.

Stuart is proud to champion our Future Leaders community as part of building an OSH profession that is fit for the future.

Louise Hosking, Immediate Past President

Louise is a first career OSH professional with over 30 years' experience as a transformational leader and influencer.

She has served a wide range of organisations, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), corporate, public and third sectors.

A passionate IOSH volunteer, Louise's term as President focused on people, governance, social sustainability and putting heart into health and safety.

Angela Abbs, Vice-President

Angela has been an IOSH member for more than 25 years and is passionate about developing younger OSH professionals.

She volunteers as a mentor and is a peer-review interview panel chair.

Angela comes from a social housing, local authority and construction background.

She is a keen supporter of SMEs, recognising their health and safety challenges. 

Richard Bate, Vice-President

Richard thrives in the high-pressure work environment of motorsports, live music and entertainment.

He is an advocate of OSH as a first career, supporting our Future Leaders community and mentoring scheme.

Richard is a member of the North Wales Branch Committee and the Sports Grounds and Events Group.

His key incentives are a grassroots, sustainability-driven approach to OSH, diversity and elimination of harm.

Neil Catton, Vice-President

Neil has been a health and safety practitioner for over 30 years and an IOSH volunteer for 23 years.

He has worked in many different industries and, since 2018, runs his own safety and risk management consultancy.

Joanne Price, Vice-President

Joanne is an independent health, safety, quality and environment (HSQE) consultant, specialising in the implementation of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) management systems.

She works with SMEs both nationally and internationally in industries ranging from retail, engineering through to oil and gas.

Joanne is also involved with her local college in the delivery of a level 3 SHE apprenticeship.

Jamie Sutherland-Pownall, Vice-President

Jamie is a first career safety professional with nearly 10 years of OSH experience.

He has led teams and functions in both the public and private sector on matters of national and international significance.

Jamie holds an MSc in OSH and BSc in biomedicine.
