Raising standards every day

For Mark, becoming a Chartered IOSH member represents years of commitment, development and professional achievement.

“Being a Chartered IOSH professional means more than just being a safety professional. It means I’m at the pinnacle of my career. It’s a recognised standard across the industry and gives me the confidence to undertake the role that I do on a day-to-day basis.”

Job role
Company

At Don-Bur Bodies and Trailers, Mark’s role centres on helping the business maintain high standards while continually improving safety performance and employee engagement.

He credits IOSH membership with helping him to stay informed, connected and confident in an ever-evolving profession.

“IOSH supports me on a daily basis through the IOSH Magazine, regular updates, the Blueprint Portal and CPD, with all these tools helping me keep up to date with current legislation, industry developments and best practice.”

For Mark, professional development is not simply about maintaining knowledge; it’s also about delivering value to the organisation.

Continuous learning helps give the business confidence that it has employed someone who is committed to ongoing development, stays up to date with current changes and maintains strong connections to a wider network of safety professionals.

Building a positive safety culture

A major part of Mark’s work involves engaging employees and managers across the organisations to strengthen understanding of workplace safety and health.

As an IOSH licensed Training Provider, Don-Bur delivers IOSH Training courses internally, helping embed safety awareness throughout the business.

“Delivering Managing Safely to managers and other members of staff has been a real benefit, with the business highlighting that having engaged managers in health and safety is helping to drive standards across the shop floor.”

Expanding training opportunities

The organisation aims to build on this progress by further expanding its training offer, including plans to introduce Working Safely and increase engagement with employees across the shop floor.

Mark also sees great value in his IOSH membership, particularly in the opportunity to access practical knowledge and exchange ideas with others in the profession.

Networking plays an important role in health and safety, and being part of the Staffordshire IOSH branch provides access to a regional community of professionals.

Through these connections, best practice is regularly shared, enabling members to support one another and collectively raise standards.

Staying at the forefront

Mark sees continual learning as essential to being an effective occupational safety and health professional.

“Having Blueprint available to me is an amazing tool, with a wealth of knowledge and information beyond anything I’ve seen before, helping me research, stay informed and giving me confidence that I’m working to the best of my ability.”
