Sports Grounds and Events - letter from the Chair

Hello all,

During this unprecedented time of challenge around the world, I hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and well. Our thoughts go out to each and every one of you in these troubling times.

It is amazing to see how the nation, people and colleagues are all coming together to rise to the challenges we are all currently facing but these challenges are new and unprecedented and inevitably not everything is going to go to plan. The key is to learn and adapt, to move forward together for the betterment of all, to be supportive of one another and not lose faith.

Key decisions and actions that would normally take months to push through are now being enacted in a matter of hours or days. Political parties are rallying to provide us all with essential information and advice to keep us safe and I would urge everyone to listen to and follow the professional advice we are being given. I would also like to thank the NHS and those other key workers for the selfless determination and sacrifices in attempting to curtail and defeat the pandemic currently affecting us all.

In these times where the majority of use are now working from home and indeed where some are faced with seclusion, isolation and concerns for the safety and welfare of family and friends plus also the security of their jobs, income and finances, keep talking, use social media, pick up the phone and be mindful of the mental health and wellbeing of yourself and others, reach out and communicate with family, friends and colleagues for both support and to be supportive, together we will get through this.

There is a plethora of help and support available from many sources and both IOSH and the IOSH Sports Grounds and Events Group committee are determined to add to the support systems currently available. IOSH have a page dedicated to the Coronavirus which has plenty of information and advice. Our own Chloe Batchelor is reflecting on Mental Health and Wellbeing during these unusual/challenging/unprecedented times with a view to putting out some information and Vicechair Simon Garrett is producing a useful guide to homeworking. These will be published on our Microsite as they become available.

We will continue to monitor the developments across the coming days and weeks, shall continue to work with and support IOSH and you our members.

On a more positive note, whilst at home over the coming weeks, why not use this opportunity to catch up on you CPD, read that book or article you’ve been meaning to read, complete some online e-learning, learn a new skill, it’s all relevant, look at the IOSH CPD pages for more information and don’t forget to log it on your My CPD.

Stay safe, follow Government advice and guidelines, look after and be supportive of one another and I wish you all the very best.

Kind regards

Chris
