IOSH Singapore Branch collaboration

With Leeds Beckett University

07 September 2017

A main reason to join any professional organization is when one is exposed to the competency of existing members of such professional organizations.

IOSH Singapore Branch members have made full use of a platform to attract several new members to the IOSH fold by interacting with around 120 students of Leeds Beckett University, BSc (Hons) Safety, Health and Environment over a 3 month period.

IOSH Member JC Sekar facilitated a 36 hour session with the students on a course titled Hazardous Industries. Other members including Darren Brunton, Nurul Asshekin, Seah Sok Hwee and Zephan Chan chipped in with guest lectures to highlight various aspects of Health and Safety in their area of expertise.

On 7 September, IOSH members Lim Ping, Jason Oh and Mok Wai Keong, together with IOSH UKs Laurence Dufour and Chloe Zhu, also gave an overview of IOSH and also the Work 2022 Vision.

The net result: IOSH Singapore has been recognized by the fresh graduates as the Go to organization for professional membership as Grad IOSH members. During the period Jan-June 2017 many new IOSH members were added to the

Singapore Branch and a majority of these were students of the University. We expect this number to increase significantly with the graduation of the batch of students from the University in the months ahead.
