Introduction to protective security by Mr James Foo

09 March 2018

IOSH Singapore Branch had our first IOSH Networking Night for 2018 on 09 March 2018. Besides the usual great company and catching up with fellow members – and, of course, the usual excellent food buffet, IOSH Singapore also had pleasure of welcoming Mr James Foo to give a presentation to IOSH Singapore Branch.

James is the Assistant Director for Research and Knowledge Management at the Institute of Safety and Security Studies (ISSS) from the Ministry of Home Affairs. He is involved in enhancing capabilities for Home Team Departments in areas of protective security though conducting specialized training and advisory works. James received his BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering from University of Leeds in 1996 and master’s in business administration (MBA) from University of Wales in 2005. James is also a certified trainer under the national Workforce Skill Qualification (WSQ) framework.

James gave an introduction of the ISSS Protective Security Framework, which aims to provide practitioners with guidance on planning, operations and review of security measures, leading to enhanced effectiveness and reduced wastage of resources. It also examines Principles of Protective Security and highlights important considerations in security measures.

As the industries in Singapore begins to pick on protective security, this presentation was a very good insight to the requirements to establish such a management tool. There were several questions and discussions among James and the guest and the evening rounded off with our group photo.
