In September, at the 2019 IOSH conference we were delighted to receive the IOSH Excellence Award for 2019 in the category 'COLLABORATION' recognising the success of the Annual Alliance Conference and Exhibition, held this year in Swansea. As a branch we had also put forward an entry in the 'Enhance 'category. The winners were announced during the morning of the networks conference and I was honoured to be there as the chairman of the South Wales branch, and to be joined by 2 committee members. Whilst this is an IOSH award for an IOSH branch and one which recognises the hard work and consistently high inputs by branch members over the years, it is for 'collaboration' and by definition recognises the involvement of other Safety Groups across South and South West Wales. Congratulations therefore must go to the wider committee and group of which we are a part for their continued dedication to making the event a success.
I would personally like to thank two of our committee members who have been such a huge part of the success of the event since its inception 5 years ago .Paul Chappell has worked exceptionally since the start of the event and represents our branch enthusiastically and professionally. Thanks must also go to Ann Jones a longstanding member of the South Wales branch and a past chair as well as being a stalwart of the Alliance conference committee. Ann represents the combined interests of all the groups with a clear objective of making the Alliance conference the success that it is. Ann also put the application together, something else she deserves our thanks for.
We are all volunteers, and working toward a successful conference for the good of others is something that, when recognised through the IOSH Excellence Award, hopefully rewards those efforts. The event goes from strength to strength and next year is back in Cardiff at the Cardiff City Stadium on April 1st 2020. Once again IOSH members are working hard to make this a successful event for another year. All of the branch membership should be proud that here in South Wales we have such a highly regarded safety event judged as highly as it is by our peers. Long may this event continue to be as successful as it is through the input and support of our membership.
